Recently in the AC-T we learned of the proposed sale of the Chimney Rock property.
What a shame that the folks who own it would not come to some agreement to allow the state to purchase it. That the owners are selling it, and even obliquely mention development of part of it, I am sure flies in the face of what his great grandfather would have wanted. Mr. Morton, who owned Grandfather Mountain, saw the value in keeping his property as a natural legacy. Is money the only legacy that the Morse family care about?
The Nature Conservancy is trying to work with the state to save this property as a state park for all to enjoy.
I want to encourage all who care about the unique natural beauty of this particular spot in North Carolina to donate to the Nature Conservancy of North Carolina and specify that the money is to be used to Save Chimney Rock.
You can donate online at https://secure.nature.org/support_us?support=donate or send contributions to Nature Conservancy North Carolina, One University Place, Suite 290, 4705 University Dr., Durham, N.C. 27707. Please also contact your state legislators to show your concern for the situation.
